William has won numerous awards for his beautiful artwork, including a Congressional Award for the painting of his sister here that now hangs in Congressman Andy Barr's office. William attributes much of his foundation and inspiration to the fine arts department here at The Lexington School.



Jamie Nicholson, Class of 1994 wins Kentucky Literary Award

Bowling Green, Ky. –Southern Kentucky Book Fest partners announced Dr. James Nicholson as the winner of this year’s Kentucky Literary Award for his book The Kentucky Derby: How the Run for the Roses Became American’s Premier Sporting Event. First awarded in 2003 and reintroduced last year after a brief hiatus, the Kentucky Literary Award is given to an author from Kentucky or one whose book has a strong Kentucky theme. Fiction and non-fiction books are recognized in alternating years.

Kelsey Floyd qualified for the first round of Olympic trials in the 100-meter butterfly. The article in the link below takes you to the trials, but the great news is, Kelsey came in 4th overall. An amazing accomplishment! TLS is so proud of Kelsey--she has a huge fan base right here on Lane Allen for sure.

Joshua Dhir makes TLS proud at statewide Geography Bee.

Joshua did a fantastic job representing TLS at the Kentucky National Geographic Bee.  He competed against 100 other middle school students from across the state, all of whom won their respective school bees and passed a written qualifying test.  He finished in 4th place on Friday, March 30th in Bowling Green!!!  He credits a keen interest and curiosity in our planet, and Ms. Cowling's history class, for when he correctly answered "New Orleans" to a final round question about Andrew Jackson and the War of 1812!!!

Kelsey Floyd, Class of 2005, Swims to the Top

A big congrats to Kelsey Floyd, Class of 2005, for her powerhouse performance a the all NCAA swim meet at Auburn this weekend. 3rd place in the 200 and the 100 Fly puts her in the tops ranks of swimmers nationally and makes her a pre-olympic prospect.  That's the real deal.  Way to go Kelsey!

Natalie Hagan Wins Regional Science Award

Be sure to congratulate Natalie Hagan for winning a Life Science award at the 2012 CENTRAL KENTUCKY REGIONAL SCIENCE and ENGINEERING FAIR. Natalie competed in the regional fair held at UK after winning her category in the county fair. Her project was an analysis of the genetic sequences of influenza viral strains and their rate of mutation to determine whether or not the seasonal flu vaccination would be an effective method of preventing seasonal illness.

Connor Perry is Clara!

Congratulations to Connor Perry, class of 2015! Connor was the youngest and the first African American "Clara" at the Bluegrass Youth Ballet. She performed so beautifully and inspired many in the Nutcracker over the holidays . We are really proud of her!

Last week was the 6th graders last night at Hall's School of Dance, the etiquette ballroom dancing club that many 6th graders from all over Lexington enjoy. Not only did Shaun Anderson enjoy dancing at Hall's, but also he won the trophy! He and his partner from Morton Middle School were selected as the Hall's School of Dance Grand Champions!

Votes are in for female and male Area 6 runners of the year as well as Coach(es) of the year.

In the middle school girls division:
Katie Kostelic was voted as one of the top ten female runners of the year in a thirteen county area.

In the elementary girls division:
Lucy Oldham and Alexis Pickett were voted as two of the top ten runners of the year in a thirteen county area .

In the elementary boys division:
Ben Schaeffer was voted as one of the top ten runners of the year in a thirteen county area .

In the coaching ranks:
Our own Coach Jim Kaiser was voted as top coach in both girls and boys elementary divisions by his coaching peers.

Congrats to our great TLS swimmers!  Competing against 300 swimmers from 5 states, Highbridge Aquatics returned to Lexington from a huge competition in Indiana with 3 highpoint age group champions, as well as 28 top 10 finishers, including our own Audra Ferrier (TLS 5th grader), Emma Ferrier, class of 2008, and Megan Goldthorpe (TLS 6th grader).

Big congrats to Ellie Phillips, class of 2014 on her success at the Junior National Leadership Conference in Washington, DC.  I am proud to report that she was chosen as Valedictorian of her Leadership Group by the adult supervisors.  She gave a wrap-up speech on leadership the last morning of the conference. Way to go Ellie!

Lee Kiefer, Class of 2008, #6 in the World, Fencing!

A big congrats to Lee Kiefer, TLS class of 2008, for her huge success in Fencing. Lee is featuring in "Sports Illustrated" magazine for her bronze medal at the senior world championships in Catania, Italy, where she was the second U.S. female to ever win a medal in the event. She was defeated 15-10 by Italy's Valentina Vezzali, a three-time Olympic individual gold medalist who went on to win the title. Lee's performance lifted her to No. 6 from No. 13 in the world rankings. She is the first among U.S. juniors and seniors and is the two-time Pan Am gold medalist.
