Birthday Closet

What if your child did not receive a single birthday gift?

William Wells Brown Elementary (WWB) is in downtown Lexington. The Lexington School partners with WWB Family Resource Center to help provide for the many needs of the student body.

The “Birthday Closet” is a TLS Service Learning project the entire Lexington School community can participate in. The project provides an opportunity for our TLS students to give every single student (3 years to 5th grade) at William Wells Brown (WWB) Elementary a birthday gift.

Students at WWB choose one gift from the “closet” located at WWB on their birthday.  Often the gift from the TLS “Birthday Closet” is the only present these kids receive.

If you would like to donate to the TLS/WWB “Birthday Closet” you may:

  • donate a new unwrapped gift
  • gifts can be for a girl or boy
  • ages range from 3 years to 5th grade.
  • the “Birthday Closet” is located in the far corner of the TLS faculty workroom.
  • or just drop the gift off at the TLS office or let your child deliver it.
  • the Service Learning Committee will handle delivery to William Wells Brown.

Please keep the Birthday Closet in mind when you are out shopping.  If you see a deal on something, get it!  If your child (up to grade 5) would like it, a child at William Wells Brown will love it!

In the past, many of our students have requested a donation of gift(s) for the “Birthday Closet” at their own birthday parties, and this is a great way to celebrate and help others at the same time.
